Community Health Advocacy volunteer program is now looking for volunteers to assist them with educating the community about breast cancer. Our Community Education and Outreach Initiative will focus on the metropolitan Atlanta area. The training will be an 8 hour 1-day course focusing on how to provide accurate and informative breast health and breast cancer education to individuals who so often have been disproportionately impacted by high morbidity and mortality rates, as well as, poor health outcomes. Shades of Pink Advocates serve many roles in the communities such as educating the community on the benefits of early detection to acting as a resource to those who may not receive information through regular health promotion efforts.

Training participants are women and men interested in increasing breast cancer awareness within their communities to help decrease the number of women diagnosed with late stage breast cancer by increasing the number of women screened through mammography. This training will also teach CHAs how to begin to work more effectively with minority medically underserved, underinsured and uninsured communities. CHAs that complete the training will be empowered to empower their communities.

By the end of the training all CHAs will know what it means to begin "Working Individually and Collectively to Educate Women about Breast Cancer." Participants will be able to work both as an individual in his or her community, but also as a collective group dedicated to educating the underserved, underinsured and uninsured communities within metro Atlanta about the benefits of early detection.
