A Word From the Founder

Nichole Hancock Many have asked me "How did I get involved with breast cancer." The truth is I just fell into it after working at Winship Cancer Institute as the Outreach & Education Manager for the Avon Foundation´s Breast Center at Grady"s Cancer Center of Excellence. After learning more about the disease and the cause centered around it. It didn´t take me long to develop a passion for the people and the cause. I simply loved their positive outlook on life they displayed each and every day. It was then that I learned that this thing called "cancer" was not a death sentence, but instead gave many women another reason to live. a reason to change a negative behavior, a reason to believe in a "higher power," the ability to trust that "this too shall pass," to fully understand that "all is well in the end," a desire to give back, and finally an overall desire to be happy regardless of the situation. How impressive and inspiring is that?

It just amazes me and others, that despite being given a cancer diagnosis, one that temporarily robs many of them of the very breath they need to breathe, they still manage to stay positive. I found that many of them turned to their faith, find faith or simply know that they need to have faith from this point forward after their diagnosis. This why I found myself drawn to them. Survivors give me strength! If you know one or any, they will give you strength too.

Today, I have learned that their really isn´t any thing that can go on in my life that should make me feel like I looser or defeated. I have learned to always think victorious in all situation. I´ve learned "not to sweat the small stuff." The women of SOP continue to teach me and others that they come in contact with either vocally through their music or by the way they carry themselves that life can and does go on, you just have to believe and have faith. In my opinion Survivors have the greatest outlook on life that many of us need to adopt on a daily basis. They have taken the saying "when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade" to heart each day. Life truly is about making the most out of every situation. Today, I ask that each of us learn to celebrate the good in everything.

I continue to be more committed than ever to helping women LOVE the fact that they have survived breast cancer. This quarter I challenge each of you to learn to live like a SURVIVOR.

Sincerely,
M. Nichole Hancock
